About The Position

The Network and Systems Technician 2 provides hands-on, mid-level support to the Islip School District technology department across infrastructure and end-user support. The role is roughly equivalent to a Junior Systems Administrator and is intended to resolve day-to-day network, server, virtualization, and device issues on site, helping keep classrooms and district offices running while senior engineers focus on design and architecture. The technician handles issues from initial report through resolution, maintains system patching and documentation, and helps reduce escalations to senior staff. The position supports the district's network, servers, virtual machines, and managed endpoints, as well as staff and student requests. It works with the district technology department, senior network and systems engineers, teachers, students, building administrators, and district leadership. The role also assists with network equipment installations, replacements, and configuration changes under senior direction; escalates design, architecture, or out-of-scope issues; and supports device rollouts and summer refresh projects ahead of the school year. Success is measured through timely ticket resolution, declining escalations and repeat issues, maintenance and patch compliance, accurate asset records and documentation, user satisfaction, and completion of device projects on time. Performance is evaluated through 30- and 90-day milestone check-ins, regular reviews, ServiceDeskPlus reporting, and feedback from district leadership, senior engineers, and end users.
