About The Position

The Network and Systems Technician 2 provides hands-on, mid-level support to the Islip School District technology department across infrastructure and end-user support. The role is roughly equivalent to a Junior Systems Administrator. The technician handles day-to-day network, server, virtualization, and device issues on site, keeping classrooms and district offices running while senior engineers focus on design and architecture. The role resolves issues from first report through resolution, maintains patches and documentation, and helps reduce escalations to senior staff. The position works with the district technology department, senior network and systems engineers, teachers, students, building administrators, and district leadership. It also supports device rollouts and summer refresh projects so they are completed before the school year starts.

Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of hands-on IT experience covering both infrastructure and end-user support.
  • Solid proficiency troubleshooting routing, switching, and wireless networks.
  • Experience with routine server maintenance, including software and database updates.
  • Experience working from a ticketing system and keeping documentation current; ServiceDeskPlus training is provided.
  • Experience with VMware vCenter, especially snapshots and resource allocation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune for policy deployment and Windows device management.
  • Experience with Google Admin Console for Chromebook management.
  • Experience with Jamf for iPad management.
  • Experience with ManageEngine Endpoint Central or other Endpoint Central products.
  • Ability to work independently through issues from first report to resolution.
  • Clear, patient communication with non-technical staff, students, and administrators.
  • Organization and discipline in documentation, asset records, and follow-up.
  • Good judgment about when to escalate and ability to keep users informed until an issue is closed.
  • Customer-focused, dependable, and comfortable in a busy school environment.
