About The Position

Genesis10 is seeking a CockroachDB Database Engineer for a hybrid role with a Global Financial Institution. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity. The engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and operationalizing CockroachDB as an enterprise Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) on a Linux platform. This role involves developing automation frameworks, enforcing engineering standards, and ensuring high availability for a distributed database system.

Requirements

• 8+ years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments
• Strong hands-on experience with CockroachDB architecture and administration
• Deep understanding of distributed database systems (replication, consistency, consensus models)
• Expertise in automation using Ansible playbooks and strong shell scripting (Bash/Korn Shell)
• Strong experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
• Experience with multi-region deployment architectures and high availability design
• Database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning
• Experience in monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
• Solid understanding of backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery strategies
• Experience implementing security controls, encryption, RBAC, and compliance standards
• Expertise in using AI Tools like Github Copilot or any other AI tools to write the code
• Excellent collaboration and stakeholder communication skills
• Able to work a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days per week onsite

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with Terraform or similar IaC tools
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline integration for database provisioning
• Experience in financial services or regulated environments

Responsibilities

• Develop and enforce engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices
• Build automation frameworks using Ansible, shell scripting, and infrastructure-as-code principles to enable scalable, repeatable deployments
• Design and implement self-service provisioning capabilities for application teams
• Ensure high availability, performance tuning, monitoring, failover, and disaster recovery capabilities
• Define and implement security, compliance, and governance controls aligned with enterprise policies
• Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and escalation point for CockroachDB-related issues
• Continuously improve platform reliability, efficiency, and developer experience
