About The Position

SpaceX’s Starlink Maritime Engineering team supports enterprise customers operating tankers, cruise ships, offshore platforms, and research vessels. The Network Engineer is the technical lead closest to the maritime business, translating customer and commercial needs into product capabilities, driving those capabilities through the Starlink engineering organization, and ensuring the result wins and retains accounts. The role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, independent problem-solving, and a focus on making systems work in high-impact situations. The engineer owns technical success for strategic maritime customers, defines and implements product requirements, and serves as a technical authority in pre-sales and customer engagements. The role also improves the processes and tools used to install, set up, troubleshoot, and integrate Starlink into maritime customer networks at scale. Using fleet performance data and operational knowledge, the engineer identifies product opportunities, evaluates where Starlink Maritime succeeds or falls short, and leads changes to products and networks that improve reliability and customer success. The role may require extended hours or weekends to support critical milestones or operations shifts, as well as travel to SpaceX offices, vendors, partners, and customers. Applicants must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or STEM discipline, or at least 2 years of professional experience in networking or communications integration in lieu of a degree.
  • Must be available to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to support critical milestones or operations shifts.
  • Must be willing to travel to other SpaceX offices, vendors, partners, and customers as necessary.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in network engineering and deploying network technologies.
  • Understanding of core networking concepts from Layer 1 through Layer 3 and protocols such as IPv4, IPv6, DHCP, NAT, NTP, and IPsec VPN.
  • Knowledge of routing technologies such as MPLS, SD-WAN, and SATCOM, as well as WAN architectures.
  • Understanding of backhaul, cloud, and ISP networking technologies such as dedicated interconnects, peering, and BGP.
  • Excellent data visualization skills, including experience with geospatial data representations.
  • First-principles problem-solving ability: decomposing customer, product, and network issues into constraints and evidence rather than copying existing maritime or enterprise solutions.
  • Practical experience with marine electronics and networking equipment.
  • Experience in software engineering or directly working with software engineering teams.
  • Experience at an early-stage technology startup or program that scaled rapidly.
  • Experience building, producing, or integrating components into an assembly, structure, vehicle, or site under strict quality and timeline requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical success for Starlink’s largest and most strategic maritime customers so the product meets the standard needed to win and retain enterprise business.
  • Define and implement technical product requirements and capabilities to address maritime customer needs.
  • Serve as the technical authority in pre-sales and customer engagements.
  • Reduce friction in enterprise adoption by developing processes and tools for installation, setup, and troubleshooting, enabling maritime customers to integrate Starlink into their networks at scale.
  • Identify high-leverage maritime product opportunities, including features, capabilities, and offers that can grow the business, and lead internal efforts to prioritize them.
  • Use fleet performance data and operational knowledge to identify where Starlink Maritime is succeeding or failing, then translate findings into product and network changes that improve reliability and customer success.

Benefits

  • Potential eligibility for long-term incentives in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards.
  • Potential discretionary bonuses.
  • Ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
