About The Position

This leadership position involves serving as the Medical Director for the Topeka NICU at Stormont Vail Medical Center. The role includes a $35,000 annual leadership stipend and the opportunity to lead a significant regional program serving rural families in Kansas. The Medical Director will perform core Neonatology clinical duties while also providing administrative and strategic leadership to foster practice growth and stability. Key areas of focus include recruitment and team development, quality initiatives and program development, business and operational oversight, and community and regional representation. The practice is a well-established team serving Stormont Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas, offering high-quality, evidence-based neonatology in a setting that balances clinical excellence with work-life balance. The NICU is a Level III, 36-bed unit equipped with advanced neonatal care capabilities such as High-Frequency Ventilation, Inhaled Nitric Oxide, Total Body Cooling, and aEEG. The average daily census is 25, with support from pediatric subspecialties including cardiology, neurology, general surgery, and endocrinology. The schedule is manageable, featuring a combination of in-house 24-hour shifts and in-house/from home call, allowing for predictability and over 15 days off per month. NNP coverage at Stormont ensures smooth operations. The team consists of five neonatologists and NNPs, offering a collegial, private practice feel backed by robust hospital resources. The city of Topeka is located about an hour from Kansas City, offering a vibrant capital city with a friendly atmosphere, an affordable cost of living (8-10% below average), high-quality healthcare, and access to educational programs.
