About The Position

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Neonatal Physician Assistant to join their Pediatric Neonatology team. This role involves rotating shifts of varying length, covering days and nights, 7 days a week. UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is a leading provider of obstetric and neonatal care, with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that treats over 1,700 critically ill newborns annually. The NICU features 83 beds, including private rooms designed to enhance family-centered care. The team comprises neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, nutritionists, developmental specialists, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, a neonatal transportation team, and respiratory therapists. This position is part of the UPMC Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship Program, designed to prepare PAs and NPs for advanced practice in neonatology. The first year of employment for most candidates will be the UPMC Pediatric Neonatology APP Fellowship Program, focusing on clinical skills, fundamental knowledge, and critical thinking for autonomous comprehensive pediatric care. Candidates with significant Neonatology experience may opt out of the fellowship but are encouraged to participate for comprehensive onboarding.

Requirements

  • Completion of an Accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program (MSN or DNP) for NNPs.
  • NCC Certification for NNPs.
  • Eligible for RN licensure by Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing for NNPs.
  • Eligible for NNP licensure by Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing for NNPs.
  • Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) for PAs.
  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) for PAs.
  • Eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathy for PAs.
  • BLS or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation required based on AHA standards that include both didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • NRP certification listed must meet AAAP standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ECMO competence required within 1 year of hire (Required at CHP).
  • Act 33 Clearance.
  • Act 34 Clearance.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance.
  • For Physician Assistant candidates: one year of NICU experience or completion of a fellowship program is required.
  • For Physician Assistant applicants without one year of NICU experience: encouraged to apply for our APP Neonatology Fellowship Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with greater than or equal to 3 (three) years’ experience within Neonatology will have the option of foregoing the Fellowship Program but are encouraged to enroll for the most comprehensive onboarding experience possible.

Responsibilities

  • Providing inpatient care services in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
