About The Position

Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Neonatal Physician Assistant to join its 25-bed, level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The selected practitioner must have completed NICU-specific training as an NP or PA and will provide care under the supervision of a Neonatologist. The role includes care for infants admitted to the NICU, leadership of high-risk deliveries, patient admissions, daily rounds, procedures, family communication, and discharge planning. Denver Health is an academic, safety-net healthcare system with a commitment to health equity and service to underserved populations. The Department of Inpatient Pediatrics includes the NICU, PICU, Pediatric General Ward, and Well-Baby Nursery, and participates in University of Colorado School of Medicine residency training. The APP will work closely with medical residents and, occasionally, medical students, and may teach trainees. Clinical Instructor status at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is available to practitioners who want a formal academic pathway. The NICU has approximately 450 admissions annually and cares for infants as young as 23 weeks. Services include invasive and high-frequency ventilation, total-body hypothermia for HIE, and nitric oxide therapy for PPHN. The unit has access to pediatric subspecialists and wraparound family support, as well as an integrated high-risk follow-up clinic for NICU graduates. The provider team includes neonatologists, pediatric hospitalists, and APPs. APPs and neonatal hospitalists work a combination of 24-hour shifts and night shifts so that two trained NICU providers are available to respond to high-risk deliveries and emergencies. The position also offers opportunities to contribute to interdisciplinary committee work, quality improvement, medical education, and other scholarly activities. The role is regular, with a variable shift, and pays $145,900 to $170,000 per year.
