About The Position

Wheelcare Express Inc. is a non-emergency medical transportation company serving counties in Northern California for over 40 years, with offices in Sacramento, San Leandro/Oakland, San Mateo, Santa Rosa/Solano, and Tracy. The company is seeking full-time drivers to transport clients to and from medical appointments and other engagements. Many clients have disabilities and may require wheelchair or gurney transportation. The role involves driving medical transport vehicles, maintaining vehicle safety and cleanliness, completing trip documentation, communicating with dispatch, and helping clients follow safe riding practices. Wheelcare Express will train candidates; prior NEMT driver experience is a plus but not mandatory.

Requirements

Valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record.
Must be at least 23 years old.
Ability to pass an alcohol and drug test.
Ability to pass a background check.
Ability to pass First Aid and CPR training.
Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical.
Positive attitude, good communication skills, and an empathetic and polite manner.

Nice To Haves

Past NEMT driver experience; experience is not mandatory, and training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Transport patients safely, efficiently, and on time to various locations in medical transport vehicles.
Observe and follow traffic rules and regulations.
Inspect vehicles before each shift, including checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering; notify a supervisor of mechanical defects or needed repairs.
Report and document accidents, vehicle damage, client incidents, and mechanical failures.
Complete trip documentation, mainly through phone applications.
Keep the assigned vehicle clean and fueled.
Operate wheelchair and gurney lifts.
Communicate with Dispatch.
Follow safety and COVID protocols.
Instruct clients on safe riding rules and regulations.
