About The Position

The MWO Aircraft Mechanic II performs military tactical aircraft maintenance and repairs or modifies aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty. The role maintains and repairs aircraft systems and components, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and other mechanical components. It applies technical knowledge of airframe and powerplant systems to identify malfunctions and restore equipment condition and operation, using technical manuals, blueprints, maintenance information, and other official technical guidance. The mechanic removes and installs aircraft assemblies and components; services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems; prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks; performs scheduled inspections and assists with special inspections; and conducts limited operational checks and troubleshooting with required tools and test equipment. The role also performs operator maintenance on tools and ground-support equipment, may make aircraft log and record entries, prioritizes assigned work, and may lead teams on complex aircraft tasks. It participates in maintenance test flights and operational checks as required and inspects required aeronautical maintenance performed by Aircraft Mechanic I personnel. Depending on assignment and qualifications, duties may include operating a Flexible Engine Diagnostic System (FEDS), administering the Foreign Object Elimination/Foreign Object Debris program, performing non-crew-member duties, crane operations, aircraft condition evaluation inspections, and using respiratory protective equipment. The role requires the ability to travel domestically and internationally, including on short notice to austere environments. The work may take place in a maintenance shop or outdoors, in drafty, noisy, and dirty conditions, with possible exposure to extreme equipment noise, electrical hazards, and moving mechanical parts or vehicles. The employee must use required personal protective equipment and provide their own tools and toolbox; tools must be shadowed and etched with PID.

Requirements

  • A valid, current A&P license and two years of aviation maintenance experience, including three years of rotary-wing aircraft experience and two years supporting MWO modification installations (ET); all experience must be within the five most recent years. The posting states an alternative for applicants without an A&P license: three years of aviation maintenance experience, including three years of rotary-wing aircraft experience and two years supporting MWO modification installations (ET, SM, or Mechanical), all within the five most recent years.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials or authorization; U.S. citizenship is required for credentials or authorization at this work site.
  • Must provide personal tools and a toolbox; all tools must be shadowed and etched with PID.

  • Must read, write, and communicate effectively in English and type using a standard keyboard to communicate through email and software applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical-component troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair procedures, and parts replacement.
  • Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet-metal and structural modifications and repair, and basic knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Knowledge of aircraft-specific tools and equipment, including test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet-metal brakes, and shears.
  • Working knowledge of technical publications and logistics information systems, including aircraft logbooks and records and the Army's Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System (ULLS-AE).
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and lead teams through complex aircraft-related tasks; experience sufficient to inspect required aeronautical maintenance performed by Mechanics, including Skill Class Mechanic I.
  • Experience repairing engines, sheet metal, structures, hydraulic and electrical systems, power trains, and general mechanical systems of moderate difficulty.
  • Mechanics assigned to maintenance on FAA-certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • When assigned to an Engine Specialized Repair Activity, must hold a valid, current FAA Powerplant license.
  • If assigned to operate FEDS, must hold an FAA Powerplant license or have at least five documented years as a FEDS operator.
  • When designated, must obtain a DoD EPA Refrigerant Processing Certificate, Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal or minimum Type II).
  • For assigned crane-operator duties, must have three years of crane-operation-related experience and meet OSHA 1926 Subpart CC, including 1926.1427 operator qualification and certification requirements.
  • Must be selected, qualified, and trained in accordance with contract requirements to perform aircraft condition evaluation inspection duties when assigned.
  • Must be able to pass a respirator physical and fit-test qualification if required to use respiratory protective equipment.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level or inclined surfaces for extended periods; climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands; crouch, crawl, grasp and handle objects; use finger dexterity; bend at the elbows and knees; and reach above and below the shoulders.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull at least 50 pounds; may need to lift heavier objects.
