About The Position

Victory Learning Center is seeking a Music Teacher to provide specialized activities in Music for students with disabilities. Our Victory Learning Center Programs offer specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental health diagnosis. We have two separate sites in Lackawanna, NY, with a third opening in September 2026. Our schools serve students ages 5-21, who are residentially placed or referred through their local school district's Committee on Special Education. The Music Teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students with Autism, Intellectual Disability, and/or mental illness in various educational settings. This role involves creating flexible programs and learning environments that include specialized music activities for students with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-2 years teaching experience
  • Initial NYS Teacher Certification in Music Education
  • Continuing education as per NYS Office of Profession guidelines
  • All required agency trainings (including Applied Behavior Analysis, SCIP-R)
  • All trainings required by programs in which you service individuals
  • Computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years working with individuals with Autism, Intellectual Disability, and/or mental health involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provides an educational climate that encompasses success, independence, a productive atmosphere, and provides students with encouragement, safety and stimulation.
  • Completes weekly lesson plans based on a developmentally appropriate curriculum which follows the New York State Educational Department Learning Standards.
  • Prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of the students.
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge of: subject matter- Music, ability to think critically, and individualize instruction.
  • Implement Classroom Behavior Management Plan (Tier 1) and any student specific Tier 2 or Tier 3 Interventions.
  • Act as a team leader of classroom staff including assistants, therapists and social workers.
  • Communicate effectively with parents (through notebooks, phone calls, conferences, district meetings, communication app, etc.).
  • Complete quarterly progress reports on all students that are distributed to parents and the school districts.
  • Maintain student confidentiality within HIPPA/FERPA and agency guidelines.
  • Any other duties assigned by supervisor
