About The Position

Bach to Rock® Herndon is seeking a Music Instructor to teach private lessons on various instruments including guitar, piano/keys, drums, voice, bass, ukulele, strings, brass, woodwinds, songwriting, or production. The role is W-2, part-time, and located in a studio environment with musician-friendly hours. The ideal candidate is a working musician or music educator who enjoys teaching children and teens, is proficient in rock, pop, and jazz, and can adapt their teaching style to different age groups and skill levels. Responsibilities include teaching 30-minute private lessons using a structured curriculum and song library, motivating students, tracking progress, preparing students for performances, communicating with parents, and collaborating with a team. The company handles marketing, scheduling, booking, and billing, allowing instructors to focus on teaching. Opportunities exist to grow into roles such as band coaching, summer camps, and lead instructor positions.

Requirements

  • Working musician or music educator who genuinely loves teaching kids and teens.
  • Ability to play primary instrument confidently across rock, pop, jazz, and at least one "lesson book" tradition (classical, blues, or method-book).
  • Ability to read a room and adapt energy for different age groups and skill levels.
  • Responsiveness in returning texts and punctuality.
  • Ability to keep clean lesson notes.
  • Proficiency on at least one primary instrument (intermediate-advanced minimum).
  • Some teaching experience, formal or informal.
  • Genuine liking for working with kids and teens.
  • Reliable transportation to Herndon.
  • Ability to clear a background check.
  • Commitment to consistent afternoon, evening, and/or weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-instrumental ability, teaching two or more of guitar, bass, piano, ukulele, drums, voice, or production.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 30-minute private lessons using B2R's structured curriculum and 500+ song library.
  • Meet each student where they are, choose motivating songs, and track progress lesson by lesson.
  • Help students get stage-ready for performances like Bachapalooza, Battle of the Bands, Music Showcase, and recitals.
  • Coach a Rock Band, take on a summer camp, or lead a party (if applicable).
  • Communicate proactively with parents of younger students.
  • Collaborate with a tight-knit team for support when needed.
