Music Director (Burlington Junior Redcoats and Burlington Student Theatre) - Senior Program Instructor, RCC - Music
About The Position
The City of Burlington is accepting applications for Senior Program Instructor, RCC Music, specifically for the combined role of Music Director (Burlington Junior Redcoats) and Music Director (Student Theatre) position for the 2026/2027 year beginning in September. Reporting to the Director of Bands & Music Services, this position works closely with the Director and Associate Director to ensure the successful delivery of the Junior Redcoats band, ages 9-13, and the Student Theatre (orchestra pit) program. The Music Director provides direction and coaching to staff, and to band members regarding music, marching, and rehearsals. Hours of work will vary dependent on program need. Burlington Junior Redcoats rehearsals take place on Saturday mornings from September to June at the Burlington Music Centre. Performances are scheduled additionally as required, including occasional weeknights and Sundays. Note that, for Student Theatre productions, the pit orchestra musicians will be members of the Burlington Teen Tour Band. Student Theatre rehearsals run from January to May (up to 2 additional hours per week) scheduled around the production timeline, with performance hours in May depending on the production schedule.
Requirements
- Attendance and completion of all City of Burlington mandatory training dates
- Standard First Aid and CPR C required
- Minimum of a college Diploma in Music, and/or over 2, or up to 4 or more years of relevant practical experience conducting and teaching wind band.
- Experience teaching and coaching children and youth is required.
- Confidence, patience, time management, and strong communication and organization skills.
- Provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.

Responsibilities
- Select, program, and rehearse music for parade and concert band settings
- Assist instructors and volunteers in program outlines
- Support event planning and community engagement through facilitation of parades, event performances, and collaboration with local groups
- Plan social activities, collaborate with chaperones, parents, and Burlington Junior Redcoats Band Boosters, and assist with fundraising efforts
- Oversee day-to-day operations including rehearsals, recruitment, training, local performances, and coordination of staff
- Prepare members to graduate to the Burlington Teen Tour Band
- Respond to customer inquiries about the program
- Follow up on forms and payments
- Intake registration forms for attendance and compile medical forms
- Supporting rehearsals leading up to the Senior Show (Jan-May each year)
- Transposition/adaptation of musical theatre scores, where required
- Performance commitments in May annually
- Collaboration with the vocal instructor, Artistic Supervisor, and cast
