About The Position

The City of Burlington is accepting applications for a Specialized Program Instructor, RCC – Theatre Production to support Fall/Winter/Spring Burlington Student Theatre programs for children aged 4-17 years. Reporting to the Artistic Supervisor, Program & Theatre Services, this role is responsible for coordinating the technical and production operations of Burlington Student Theatre, supporting the successful delivery of multiple productions each season, including mainstage productions at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. This role oversees production planning and logistics, mentors youth technicians and volunteers, and works collaboratively with artistic, technical, and program staff to ensure safe, high-quality productions from pre-production through final performance.

Requirements

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in Technical Theatre, Theatre Production, Stage Management, Production Management, Performing Arts, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and professional experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in technical theatre, production management, stage management, or live event production.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating technical productions, including lighting, sound, scenic, props, backstage operations, production logistics, and technical rehearsals.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and production timelines.
  • Experience working with children and/or youth in a recreational or educational setting.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating safe spaces for youth.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certifications are required (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Mentor, train, and supervise student technicians, volunteers, and production staff, fostering technical skill development, professionalism, and a positive learning environment.
  • Lead and coordinate technical and production operations for Burlington Student Theatre productions, including lighting, sound, props, scenic elements, stage management, and technical equipment
  • Develop and maintain production schedules, technical timelines, crew schedules, and production budgets in collaboration with the Artistic Supervisor, Theatre & Program Services.
  • Coordinate backstage operations and provide on-site production leadership during rehearsals, performances, and load-ins/load-outs.
  • Collaborate with creative team to plan and execute the creative vision of a variety of performances and productions.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
  • Support participants in developing performance skills, confidence, and teamwork.
  • Communicate effectively with families, staff, and City representatives as required.
  • Ensure all activities align with City policies, safety standards, and program expectations.
  • Escalate behavioural, safety, or wellbeing concerns as appropriate.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety and supervision of participants both on and offsite and are expected to implement and participate in activities.
