Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized 2 year Diploma related to Police Studies, Security, Criminology, or a related diploma is required
  • A minimum 3 years of strong customer service experience is required
  • A minimum 1 year of diverse bylaw and/or law enforcement experience is required
  • Ability to pass an internal training program which includes Officer Safety tactics
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques, bylaws, enforcement powers and authority, court proceedings, and rules of evidence
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, professionalism, and diplomacy in dealing with the public
  • Effective in-person conflict resolution and investigative skills; ability to deal effectively with sensitive issues on a continuous basis is required
  • Demonstrated understanding of racism and discrimination as it pertains to enforcement, and how bias can influence behaviour and decisions
  • Must be professional and respectful during confrontational and hostile situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, report writing, letter composition, stakeholder agency presentations, and court presentations
  • Ability to manage a high volume workload, effectively organize, prioritize and re-prioritize work
  • Proficiency with Google applications, Microsoft Office and enforcement database systems
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certificates are required
  • Hire is dependent on a recent Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)
  • Use of personal vehicle required. Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business

Responsibilities

  • Resolve complex situations, conduct investigations, and interpret and apply multiple bylaws and legislation
  • Educate citizens and promote community stewardship for property standards, licensing bylaws and specialty enforcement initiatives
  • Conduct investigations to verify and satisfy appropriate legislative and regulatory provisions
  • Generate compliance and cooperation by educating the public through explanation of bylaws, policies and procedures
  • Apply appropriate enforcement actions: issue written or verbal warnings, violation or specified penalty tickets and clean up orders
  • Respond to and process a high volume of complaints
  • Collect evidence to support each investigative file
  • Prepare reports and court briefs; provide evidence in court as required
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Salary Range: $39.836 - $49.960 (Hourly); $83,177.570 - $104,316.480 Annually (40) or $42.157 - $52.869 Hourly; $74,270.090 - $93,141.960 Annually (33.75)
