Multi-Sensor Fusion and Tracking Engineer

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory•Laurel, MD

About The Position

The Multi-Sensor Fusion and Tracking Engineer joins the Distributed Tactical Awareness and Decision-Making Group at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). The group addresses command and control challenges involving sensor integration, information fusion, and distributed kill chains. The engineer will help improve and innovate capabilities for defending against air, ballistic missile, and hypersonic threats, with opportunities to develop subject matter expertise in next-generation combat systems and contribute to deployed systems. The role involves analyzing algorithms for sensor data fusion, combat planning, management and optimization decisions, and weapon system employment. The engineer will simulate scenarios to assess performance, use warfighter needs and scholarly literature to prototype tactical algorithms, analyze live test data to inform engineering decisions, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. The role may also include visits to Navy ships and work with sailors, officers, and other warfighters.
