About The Position

Wayve is hiring a Sensor Technology Engineer in its Product & Delivery organization, within the Sensor Architecture team. The role helps define and integrate sensor systems for Wayve’s end-to-end autonomous-driving stack, with particular depth in cameras and contributions across radar, lidar and other sensing technologies. It connects sensor capabilities with the performance of the Wayve AI Driver in real-world driving conditions, working with internal hardware and software teams, OEMs, Tier 1s and sensor suppliers. The engineer translates driving use cases, operational design domain (ODD) requirements and product constraints into sensor-system requirements and measurable KPIs. Camera work includes concepts and selection, image-quality evaluation, mounting and vehicle integration, and coordination of calibration and synchronisation assumptions. The role also supports radar and lidar integration, evaluates sensor behaviour using fleet, simulation, replay and validation data, and recommends actions based on test results. The position includes hands-on lab and vehicle work for sensor bring-up, integration debugging and testing, as well as Python-based analysis and reporting. The engineer maintains requirements, imaging guidelines, test specifications and technical recommendations, and helps identify production and manufacturability constraints as programs advance toward production. Wayve uses a hybrid working model, combining in-person collaboration at office hubs with remote work. The role may involve hands-on work in vehicle workshops and laboratories. The company describes its environment as one where employees have significant ownership and help shape processes as the organization develops.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in automotive camera, radar or lidar engineering.
  • Experience delivering technical work on automotive programs from requirements through integration and validation to verified results.
  • Strong knowledge of camera systems, including image sensors, exposure, HDR, ISP pipelines, calibration and image artefacts.
  • Practical experience with camera integration, image quality, sensor characterisation or ADAS sensor validation.
  • Working knowledge of radar and/or lidar fundamentals and vehicle-integration constraints, with the ability to lead first-level supplier technical discussions.
  • Experience defining camera mounting and integration requirements with OEMs or Tier 1s, including alignment tolerances, windshield or cover-glass effects, occlusion and mount rigidity.
  • Experience using measurement and data analysis to make technical decisions, including image-quality evaluation using standard charts, tools and methods.
  • Comfort working across hardware and software teams and directly with suppliers, OEMs and customers.
  • Ability to use Python or MATLAB for engineering analysis, automation and reporting.
  • Ability to write clear requirements, test specifications and concise, data-backed recommendations.
  • Ability to work independently within a defined technical area and take ownership from analysis through recommendation.
  • Curiosity about how sensor behaviour affects autonomous-driving performance and interest in broadening expertise across camera, radar and lidar.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with production ADAS or autonomous-vehicle programs.
  • Experience with mass-production sensor integration.
  • Experience with ML-based perception.
  • Experience with fleet-data analysis or replay-based validation.
  • Experience with radome or fascia evaluation.
  • Knowledge of IEEE P2020 concepts.
  • Experience with ultrasonic sensors, SerDes, sensor configuration or synchronisation.

Responsibilities

  • Define sensor-system requirements and quantitative KPIs from driving use cases, ODD requirements and product constraints.
  • Develop camera-system concepts, including sensor and module selection, variants, field of view and placement across vehicle platforms.
  • Evaluate camera image quality, including exposure, HDR, ISP behaviour, LED flicker, low-light performance and image artefacts.
  • Define camera mounting and vehicle-integration requirements with OEMs and Tier 1s, including position, alignment, tilt tolerances, mount rigidity, glazing effects, occlusion, heating, cleaning, synchronisation and calibration assumptions.
  • Keep sensor characteristics, installation assumptions and calibration requirements consistent across development and production programs.
  • Analyze fleet, simulation, replay and validation data to assess sensor performance and its impact on system KPIs.
  • Define test requirements, review results and recommend next steps; support hands-on laboratory and vehicle testing.
  • Support sensor bring-up and hardware/software integration debugging.
  • Work with camera, radar and lidar suppliers on technical requirements, sample evaluation and integration constraints.
  • Support radar integration topics, including mounting, radome and fascia effects, calibration and interference.
  • Support lidar and other sensing technologies, such as ultrasonics, when required.
  • Answer technical camera and sensor questions from customers and partners.
  • Maintain sensor requirements, imaging guidelines, test specifications and technical recommendations.
  • Automate sensor-data analysis and reporting using Python.
  • Identify production and manufacturability constraints early as customer programs progress toward production.
