Sensor System Design / Systems Engineer

Qualcomm•Santa Clara, CA
•$209,300 - $313,900

About The Position

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Systems Engineer to join its Fingerprint Sensor team and develop biometric solutions for next-generation mobile devices. The role focuses on architecting and developing fingerprint sensing systems, including system-level analysis, optimization, and validation to achieve strong performance, reliability, and integration. The engineer will optimize hardware/software interfaces and drive schemes, develop and validate algorithms, and characterize performance across edge and corner cases through firmware definition and refinement. The position involves hardware specifications for ASICs, sensors, and module components; system verification and validation; collaboration across engineering disciplines; and preparation of technical documentation for internal stakeholders and external partners. The role also contributes to platform design reviews, evaluates system performance against design constraints, and identifies system-level design issues and solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field and 6+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience; OR a master's degree in one of these fields and 5+ years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. in one of these fields and 4+ years of related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of Mixed Signal Design and Systems Engineering or related work experience.
  • Experience with algorithm development, validation, and system-level performance characterization.
  • Familiarity with ASIC specifications, sensor physics, or module-level design.
  • Systems engineering experience, preferably with sensors and integrated modules.
  • Ability to define architectures and integrate systems into commercial products.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including attention to edge-case performance.
  • Experience with CMOS sensor design using TFT/LTPS technologies.
  • Strong understanding of hardware/software interaction, including firmware development and hardware/software co-optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with CADENCE, SPICE, MATLAB, Verilog/VHDL, Python, and laboratory equivalents.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and define end-to-end system solutions for next-generation fingerprint sensing technologies.
  • Define system integration requirements across sensor applications and product platforms.
  • Optimize hardware/software interfaces and drive schemes to improve system performance and efficiency.
  • Lead algorithm development and validation, combining sensor physics and data analysis to improve accuracy, robustness, and performance.
  • Develop hardware specifications for ASICs, sensors, and module-level components.
  • Characterize and optimize system performance under edge and corner conditions through firmware development, testing, and iteration.
  • Perform system-level verification and validation to ensure reliability, scalability, and production readiness.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, firmware, and product engineering teams to integrate solutions into high-volume consumer products.
  • Prepare technical documentation, design descriptions, and test materials for internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Support design reviews for platform development and lead evaluation of system performance based on design constraints and capabilities.
  • Work with groups outside the domain to support design integrity.
  • Independently identify system-level software and hardware design issues and patterns, assess implications across teams, and recommend technologies and solutions.
  • Address ambiguous issues, define design architectures, and develop solutions, models, code, and simulations.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Opportunity for annual RSU grants, except for employees on sales-incentive plans.
  • Competitive benefits package designed to support employees at work, at home, and at play.
