Senior Estimation and Tracking Engineer

Anduril•Irvine, CA
•$220,000 - $292,000

About The Position

Anduril is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its growing team in Irvine, California. The company develops software at the intersection of machine learning, computer vision, and sensor fusion, combining data from robots, cameras, radars, and other sources into a unified operational picture that supports autonomous systems and end users. Its software enables autonomous operation and situational awareness through sensors and systems that work together and improve over time. The engineer will design and develop robust, efficient software for real-time tracking and fusion; analyze data and evaluate performance to validate and improve tracking capabilities; and contribute across the software development lifecycle from requirements analysis through deployment. The role also involves following developments in tracking and fusion, writing maintainable and documented code, and providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in production-grade C++ or Rust software development.
  • Strong background in linear algebra, multivariable calculus, and probability or stochastic processes.
  • Experience with probabilistic inference and Bayesian likelihood estimation.
  • Familiarity with state-estimation and tracking approaches, such as Kalman filters, extended Kalman filters, and particle filters.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to break large problems into actionable parts.
  • Eligibility to obtain and hold a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience processing measurements from radar, electro-optical, RF, or LIDAR sensors.
  • Experience with sensor characterization and modeling.
  • Experience with multi-target prediction and tracking, such as multi-hypothesis tracking.
  • Experience deriving performance metrics and analyzing system performance.
  • Experience with camera and sensor calibration.
  • Familiarity with nonlinear optimization frameworks such as Ceres, g2o, or GTSAM.
  • Experience in unmanned systems.
  • Experience with Docker, CircleCI, and Linux.
  • An MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop robust, efficient software for real-time tracking and fusion.
  • Conduct data analysis and performance evaluation to validate and improve tracking system capabilities.
  • Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
  • Stay up to date with developments in tracking and fusion technology.
  • Write clear, maintainable code with comprehensive documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of total compensation.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
