About The Position

Salem Public Schools is seeking an internal applicant to serve as an MTEL Preparation Course Designer for the 2025-2026 school year. This part-time, stipend position will run from May to June 2026, with approximately 5-7 hours of work per week, primarily after school. The role involves remote work with some in-person requirements. The primary goal is to create a comprehensive 6-week course of study to guide Salem educators through the Massachusetts educator licensure process. This course will cover essential topics such as applying for and advancing a license, competency review options, test alternatives, and requesting accommodations. The position offers an opportunity to build leadership skills and potentially lead to summer employment.

Requirements

  • Internal Only - current, active SPS educator
  • Commitment to the district’s strategic recruitment goals
  • Ability to work remotely with some in-person meetings and events required
  • Recommendation from supervisor
  • Interest in developing professional development and helping educators succeed
  • Skilled with use of google slides
  • Strong commitment to cultural proficiency and the district’s core values of belonging, equity, and opportunity

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and/or knowledge of teaching and/or licensure is helpful in this role
  • Experience creating professional development for educators is a plus
  • Bilingual applicants (Spanish) and candidates of color are strongly encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Research the educator licensure process in Massachusetts through DESE.
  • Synthesize information to ensure it is easily understandable and accessible.
  • Create a 6-week course of study covering the basics of the educator licensure process in Massachusetts.
  • Assist the HR team.
  • Apply creativity to research, synthesize, and create a course of study.
