About The Position

This position supports missionaries in their role of inviting others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel. Teachers are entry-level individual contributors who train missionaries in a variety of settings and topics, including language skills, gospel doctrine and Preach My Gospel instruction, and missionary skill development. They may train junior and senior missionaries before they enter the MTC, while they are at the MTC, and after they leave. Teachers follow an approved curriculum and may participate in pilots and initiatives.

Requirements

Must be a returned missionary.
Fluency in the specified second language for language teaching positions.
Outstanding coaching, facilitation, and training skills and abilities.
Knowledge and understanding of Preach My Gospel.
Excellent interpersonal, prioritizing, professionalism, and leadership skills.
Self-motivated and able to work well with people.
Willingness to receive and implement feedback.
Understanding of effective language-learning strategies for language teaching positions.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and a second language for language teaching positions; non-verbal communication ability for ASL teachers.
Ability to meet physical requirements that may include sitting or standing for long periods and using monitors or equipment.

Nice To Haves

MTC classroom teaching or tutoring experience.
Experience with online interactions, including chat and video conferencing.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction, direction, counsel, and feedback to missionaries through one-on-one coaching, small group facilitation, large group workshops, and monitoring Canvas participation and discussion boards.
Plan and prepare lessons in coordination with a companion teacher when applicable, following the approved curriculum and addressing missionaries’ needs.
Direct missionaries in planning and accounting for their learning.
Implement direction and training from the Teacher Trainer/Supervisor, Manager of Training, and Senior Manager of Training.
Attend weekly training meetings and participate in co-teacher meetings.
Assist area leadership with coordination involving mission and Missionary Department leadership, as requested.
Report needs and progress on assigned tasks to leadership.
Coach missionaries as they prepare for and participate in practice and live lessons.
May assist in assessing missionaries’ and teacher applicants’ proficiency in the target language.
May take on additional responsibilities as an Actor, role-playing as a non-member interested in learning about The Church of Jesus Christ.
May take on additional responsibilities as a Training Area Assistant, as hours allow.
May perform other temporarily assigned duties at the MTC, such as assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar.
