About The Position

The MTC Teacher is an entry-level support individual contributor who helps train missionaries in a variety of settings and topics. Training may include language skills, gospel doctrine and Preach My Gospel instruction, and missionary skill development. Teachers may train junior and senior missionaries before they enter the MTC, while they are at the MTC, and after they leave. They follow an approved curriculum and may be selected to participate in pilots and initiatives. The role supports the missionaries’ purpose of inviting others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. Teachers report to a trainer- or supervisor-level employee in the Training department. Church employment requires membership in the Church and worthiness to hold a temple recommend. Requirements

Must be a returned missionary.
Fluency in the specified second language for language-teaching positions.
Outstanding coaching, facilitation, and training skills and abilities.
Knowledge and understanding of Preach My Gospel.
Excellent interpersonal, prioritizing, professionalism, and leadership skills.
Self-motivated and able to work well with people.
Willingness to receive and implement feedback.
Understanding of effective language-learning strategies for language-teaching positions.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and a second language for language-teaching positions; non-verbal communication for ASL teachers.
Ability to meet physical requirements that may include sitting or standing for long periods and using monitors or equipment.

Nice To Haves

MTC classroom teaching or tutoring experience.
Experience with online interactions, including chat and video conferences.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction, direction, counsel, and feedback to missionaries through one-on-one coaching, small-group facilitation, large-group workshops, and monitoring Canvas participation and discussion boards.
Plan and prepare lessons using the approved curriculum, coordinating with a companion teacher when applicable to meet missionaries’ needs.
Direct missionaries in planning and accounting for their learning.
Implement direction and training from the Teacher Trainer or Supervisor, Manager of Training, and Senior Manager of Training.
Attend weekly training meetings and participate in co-teacher meetings.
Assist area leadership in coordinating with mission and Missionary Department leadership, as requested.
Report on the needs and progress of assigned tasks to leadership.
Coach missionaries as they prepare for and conduct practice and live lessons.
May assist in assessing missionaries’ and teacher applicants’ proficiency in the target language.
May take on additional responsibilities as an Actor, role-playing a non-member interested in learning about The Church of Jesus Christ.
May take on additional responsibilities as a Training Area Assistant, as hours allow.
May perform other temporarily assigned duties at the MTC, such as assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar.
