The MRI Technologist performs diagnostic MRI exams upon the order of a qualified physician, following Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Radiology Department and clinic policies, procedures, and protocols. Depending on the assigned site, the role may include certain MR and MRA exams. The technologist uses the designated Radiology Information System (RIS) for clerical processes and the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for imaging workflows. Other technical or non-technical duties may be assigned when the supervisor determines that the technologist has adequate training, experience, and credentials. The role includes applying technical principles and anatomical knowledge to produce quality MRI images; communicating with patients according to their age-related needs; conducting routine equipment maintenance and quality-control activities; documenting cleaning and QC logs; and identifying equipment or image-transmission issues. The technologist follows MRI safety measures, selects appropriate imaging coils, uses sterile technique when necessary, and maintains venipuncture competency for IV contrast administration. The position also involves required training, maintaining applicable credentials and continuing education, and communicating effectively with patients, coworkers, supervisors, coordinators, radiologists, physicians, and clinic staff.
