About The Position

The MRI Technician operates MRI equipment to produce diagnostic scans as directed by the radiologist and orthopedic physician. The technician assumes responsibility for the MRI suite and the patients entering the area. The role emphasizes patient safety and comfort, accurate imaging, and efficient workflow. The stated productivity target is 12–16 exams over 8 hours for a two-technician team, with patients offered same-day scans when possible.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Successful completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program, with continued studies in MRI.
MRI registration licensure.
Knowledge of x-ray procedures.
Ability to operate all equipment and machinery, including processors.
Computer skills, including MS Office Suite.
Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Responsibilities

Greet patients in the MRI waiting room and review their history forms.
Confirm that authorization has been obtained and is in the chart, when applicable.
Determine whether it is safe for the patient to enter the magnet room.
Prepare and position patients for the appropriate scan.
Determine whether contrast injection is needed according to criteria established by the radiologist.
Perform scans according to protocols established by the radiologist.
Transmit completed studies to the radiologist via PACS.
Identify when a wet reading is needed.
Provide patients or physicians with a copy of the images on CD.
Provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.
Maintain order and cleanliness in the MRI area.
Ensure equipment is working and report malfunctions to the appropriate service engineer and Office Manager.
Participate in training new employees.
