About The Position

Copper Mountain Resort is seeking a Mountain Safety Patrol Lead for the Winter 26/27 season. This role involves managing the daily activities of Mountain Safety Patrol volunteers three days a week to minimize on-mountain risk and reckless behavior through education and awareness. The position also includes administrative duties, efficient communication, and supporting volunteers. The Lead will be on skis or snowboard, overseeing volunteers on the hill, and performing administrative tasks to support the program. This role fosters guest service, and involves hiring, training, safety education, communication, safety events, safety initiatives, rewards, and recognition, as well as coordinating benefits and social events. Strong administrative skills, including proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Teams, and application usage for scheduling and reporting, are essential. The Lead will also handle the Supervisor's duties on their scheduled days off. This is a seasonal position with potential fluctuations in hours based on business volume. The role requires upholding a professional image and exceeding guest expectations.

Requirements

  • Must be able to ski/ride on Blue designated trails or above, in all weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Criminal background check will be conducted after position is accepted.
  • Thorough communication and excellent administrative skills including strength in Excel, Microsoft Teams and application usage for scheduling and running reports.

  • Desired background in education or administration and experience working with large groups of people in varying age groups.
  • Critical thinker who possesses problem solving capabilities.
  • Possesses strong communication, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Has a desire to promote safety and be able to ski or ride any intermediate level trail or above at Copper Mountain.
  • Desired medical training such as EMT certification/ CPR/AED.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily activities of the Mountain Safety Patrol volunteers three days per week.
  • Minimizes on-mountain risk and reckless behavior through skier/rider education and awareness.
  • Performs administrative duties to oversee the program.
  • Fosters and provides opportunities to gain skills in creating unmatched guest service.
  • Assists the Supervisor with managing a large group of volunteers.
  • Is on skis or a snowboard and is present, at times, on the hill overseeing the volunteers on duty.
  • Handles the Supervisor’s duties on the Supervisor’s scheduled days off.
  • Hiring, training, skier/rider safety education, communication, safety events, safety initiatives, rewards and recognition, coordinating benefits and social events.
  • Functions as an ambassador of Copper Mountain, modeling and sharing the Copper “culture” with our guests and employees.
  • Upholds the most professional image.
  • Continually strives to exceed our guest’s expectations and create memories for our guests and staff.
