About The Position

This seasonal position supports parks maintenance, roads, and trails maintenance operations. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April through October, though it may vary because of weather, project needs, or funding. Anticipated entry on duty is April 2027. The Motor Vehicle Operator drives platform trucks, van trucks, dump trucks, specialty pumping equipment, and trash removal trucks, typically with gross vehicle weights over 26,000 and up to 32,000 pounds. The operator transports passengers, supplies, materials, equipment, and tools, and tows trailers and equipment. The role also includes general vehicle maintenance and manual road-operations work, including handling asphalt, cleaning ditches and culverts, roadside brushing, garbage collection, striping, and traffic flagging. The position requires moderate physical effort to operate and control vehicles carrying heavy loads or many passengers. Frequent lifting of items over 50 pounds is required; changing tires and making limited emergency repairs on open highways may require considerable effort. Work is outdoors in extreme hot and cold temperatures, and vehicles are operated in varied traffic and weather conditions on public roads, with exposure to serious-accident hazards. The employee may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work. The position is suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
