The Monitor Technician is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the Emergency Department. The role monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors and meets the department’s communication needs. The technician transcribes physician orders when computerized physician order entry and the electronic medical record clinical documentation system are unavailable, verifies that laboratory and radiology tests have been ordered and completed, and prepares and compiles Emergency Department records. The technician also orders unit supplies and prepares and completes each patient’s chart with the forms needed for that day. The technician may assist nursing staff with indirect patient care duties provided that these activities do not distract from the primary responsibility of dysrhythmia monitoring.
