The Monitor Technician is responsible for clerical duties for the unit, transcribing orders, communicating information, and requisitioning supplies and equipment. Under the direction of an RN, LPN, physician, or physician assistant, the technician monitors, documents, and interprets EKG rhythms and/or hemodynamic lines for assigned patients. The role also requires documenting and reporting EKG abnormalities, changes, or concerns to the appropriate staff member. Most shifts are 10–12 hours, depending on the unit, and involve long periods of sitting, watching monitors, and working on a computer. This is an on-call position with a variable schedule.
