About The Position

The Monitor Technician is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. The role monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors and meets the department’s communication needs. The technician transcribes physician orders when CPOE and the EMR clinical documentation system are unavailable, verifies that laboratory and radiology tests have been ordered and completed, and prepares and compiles records in Med/Surg/Telemetry. The technician also orders unit supplies and prepares and completes each patient’s chart with the necessary daily forms. The Monitor Technician may assist nursing staff with indirect patient-care duties as long as doing so does not distract from the primary responsibility of dysrhythmia monitoring. Direct patient care may be provided under the direct supervision of an RN within the scope of Certified Nursing Assistant duties only if the technician holds an active CNA certification, demonstrates annual competency in CNA duties and skills, and is relieved of Monitor Technician duties while assisting the RN.
