About The Position

The Modernization Technician performs complete modernizations and repairs for hydraulic and traction elevators. Work includes installing microprocessor controllers, door equipment, pumping units, hoist machines, wiring and connections, fixtures, hoist ropes, and packings. The technician is expected to complete modernization and repair work professionally and profitably, and to ensure elevators and related devices operate effectively and efficiently and comply with safety regulations and OSHA requirements.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified Elevator Technician degree or Elevator Mechanic License.
Knowledge and skill in using hand and electrical tools, including grinders, drill motors, and coring machines.
Knowledge and skill in using electrical reading and testing equipment, hoisting and rigging equipment, chain tackles, and related equipment.
Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, climb ladders, and walk beams.
Ability to lift and carry tools and materials weighing more than 50 pounds and to raise and carry, with assistance, items weighing 200 pounds.
Ability to work from high ladders and scaffolding and safely near moving and working equipment.
Availability to work on an on-call basis in emergencies.

Responsibilities

Complete elevator modernizations and repairs in a professional and profitable manner.
Conduct elevator repairs, modernizations, and inspections to ensure effective, efficient operation and compliance with safety regulations and OSHA requirements.
Perform annual tests to verify the proper operation of safety devices during final inspections.
Assist in determining the suitability of existing elevator equipment, proposed modifications, and new equipment.
Perform other duties related to the work described.
