About The Position

The Boeing Company’s Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking a mid-level or senior Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer to join the Laser and Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS) organization in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The role plans, develops, and maintains complex analysis and simulation models and tools to evaluate and improve total system architecture and performance, addressing defense problems and supporting mission success. The team works on critical national defense missions involving Directed Energy. The engineer evaluates system performance across scenarios and architectures; develops analysis tools and algorithms; conducts modeling, simulation, and trade studies; supports system and electromagnetic requirements and architecture definition; and helps validate designs through testing and analysis. The role also supports product development throughout the lifecycle, project management, and proposal development. The position may be filled at mid-level (Level 3) or senior (Level 4).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a non-U.S. equivalent qualification directly related to the work statement.
  • Experience in modeling and simulation systems engineering.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation software development.
  • Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance; a U.S. security clearance active within the past 24 months is considered active.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for the security clearance. The position also requires meeting U.S. export-control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person.
  • Successful candidates must satisfy the company’s Conflict of Interest process.

  • For Level 4: 9 or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master’s degree or higher.
  • Experience in modeling and simulation for electro-optical systems.
  • Experience using industry-standard modeling and simulation software and tools such as MATLAB, Python, or Java.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate systems under various scenarios and architectures to determine or optimize overall system mission performance.
  • Develop and maintain analysis tools of varied fidelity, including modeling and simulation tools, to predict performance against evolving threats for current and future defense systems.
  • Develop, refine, and document algorithm capabilities to support Department of Defense customers.
  • Conduct analyses of multiple-target discrimination for survivability, vulnerability, and susceptibility to identify a preferred configuration and support mission success.
  • Analyze existing system architectures alongside new technologies and concepts to identify potential improvements for future architectures.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and reliable models for directed-energy and space-based applications using industry-standard software and tools.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject-matter experts to gather data, validate models, and ensure simulation accuracy.
  • Run simulations to analyze system performance, identify potential issues, and propose improvements.
  • Generate reports and present findings to stakeholders, clearly explaining complex technical concepts.
  • Keep up with advances in modeling and simulation techniques for electro-optical systems and recommend process improvements.
  • Assist in developing methodologies and tools to enhance organizational modeling and simulation capabilities.
  • Perform trade studies, modeling, simulation, and other analyses to predict component and system performance and optimize designs against established requirements.
  • Assist in developing requirements for communication, sensor, electronic warfare, and other electromagnetic systems and components.
  • Support the development and validation of electromagnetic requirements for electrical and electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects, and structures.
  • Assist with architecture definition to integrate systems and components into higher-level systems and platforms.
  • Define and conduct tests to validate design performance against requirements.
  • Support product development throughout the lifecycle through root-cause analysis of anomalies and other engineering support as requested.
