About The Position

The Boeing Space & Launch team is seeking a mid-level or senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer for development projects in El Segundo, California, and Mesa, Arizona. The team develops next-generation products and services for Boeing Defense, Space & Security and works with proprietary customers on emerging space technologies. The position focuses on system analysis, developing models and simulations to support business needs, and designing constellations for proprietary missions. The role spans engineering activities including technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration. The engineer participates throughout the system development life cycle, from ConOps and requirements development through analysis, system and algorithm design, risk management, integration, testing, and operations. The successful candidate serves as a Modeling and Simulation Analyst, either as a technical leader in business development or on an active program, building, executing, and presenting system-level analysis for space-based systems. Analysis may support design reviews and program milestones or address program-specific problems through coordinated problem definition, modeling, and analysis. This position is expected to be 100% onsite at a listed location. The role requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI security clearance, with a clearance active within the past 24 months considered active. U.S. citizenship is required for the clearance, and the position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. Boeing will not sponsor applicants for employment visas. The position is not contingent upon program award and is not safety sensitive. Relocation may be available based on candidate eligibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, master's, or doctorate of science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry; the education section also lists a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Systems engineering experience involving system requirements, functional decomposition and allocation, integrated design, analysis, and verification.
  • Experience with at least one high-level software development language, such as MATLAB, Python, or C++.
  • Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI security clearance; a U.S. security clearance active within the past 24 months is considered active.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for the security clearance, and the position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • For Level 3: 5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • For Level 4: 9 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience simulating satellite digital communications system link effects, such as weather, nonlinear amplifiers, spectral-reuse interference, and phased-array antenna performance.
  • Experience simulating satellite orbital design, including latitude, longitude, and altitude, and transforming satellites to reference frames.
  • Experience with MATLAB or Python and C++ or Java.
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE), SysML, NoMagic Cameo, and creating models.
  • Experience in customer requirements development, systems requirements, and ConOps development.
  • Experience in digital communications systems design and analysis, including link analysis and familiarity with modulation and coding.
  • Educational background in electrical engineering or aerospace engineering with a focus on satellite communications design.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, develop, and verify lifecycle-balanced systems of systems and system solutions using an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach.
  • Evaluate customer and operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters, and ensure compatibility across physical, functional, and program interfaces.
  • Perform analyses to optimize systems of systems and system architectures.
  • Analyze affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory and certification considerations, product assurance, and other quality factors to identify a preferred configuration and support mission success.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor requirements management processes and tools, risk and issue management, opportunity management, and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Resolve cross-functional technical issues.
  • Coordinate with other systems engineers to define and update measures of effectiveness for system-level trades.
  • Maintain system-level budgets that allocate system requirements and characterize sensitivity to changes in system performance across subsystems.
  • Use and/or develop software tools for scheduling tasks and apportioning resources at a constellation level for proliferated satellite systems.
  • Use and/or develop software tools to characterize system performance through capacity or availability analysis.
  • Apply a system-level perspective to understand requirements and performance and create models with appropriate complexity.
  • Use and/or develop software tools to design and analyze communications systems, including link analysis, modulation, and coding.
  • Build, execute, and/or present system-level analyses for space-based systems in support of business development or active programs.

Benefits

  • Competitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities.
  • Eligible employees may enroll in benefit programs generally including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, and paid and unpaid time away from work.
  • Relocation may be offered based on candidate eligibility; basic relocation is offered for eligible internal candidates.
