About The Position

Eastern State Hospital, founded in 1773 and located in Williamsburg, Virginia, is a state-of-the-art campus with a strong emphasis on community-focused mental health care. The campus spans 500 acres and includes two patient care buildings housing 300 patients, supported by a skilled staff of over 900 professionals. As part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system and accredited by the Joint Commission, ESH is seeking BC/BE Psychiatrists with unrestricted Virginia medical licenses to serve as Medical Officer on Duty (MOD). This on-site role involves providing psychiatric and medical coverage for an acute, adult inpatient population. It offers flexibility for physicians looking to supplement their income and gain experience in assessing and triaging both psychiatric and general medical conditions. Moonlighting shifts are 12-hours on weeknights and holidays, and 15-hours on weekends. The MOD is required to remain on-site for the entire shift and has access to a furnished bedroom in the MOD lounge. A minimum of two shifts per month is required, with scheduling based on availability and preference. Malpractice insurance is covered by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Requirements

BC/BE Psychiatrist
Fully, unrestricted Virginia medical license
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree
Completion or enrollment in an accredited/approved psychiatry residency training program
Licensed to practice Medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Valid DEA Registration
Must live within driving distance to campus
Must be available to work at least 2 shifts per month

Responsibilities

Serve as Medical Officer on Duty (MOD) and provide on-site psychiatric/medical coverage.

Work weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
