About The Position

The Mobile Developer will be the sole mobile developer responsible for building a new offline-first iOS and Android app from initial project setup through public launch on the App Store and Google Play. The role begins with establishing developer accounts, build pipelines, and release tracks, and includes ownership of the app’s sync, storage, testing, and release decisions. The team works in two-week sprints, typically delivering four to five features. AI coding agents produce much of the initial code, which the developer reviews, tests, and refines. The role collaborates day to day with a lead developer and a backend developer, particularly on sync and upload APIs, and communicates risk notes and tradeoffs directly to the client team. The position reports to studio leadership. Success includes verifying sprint acceptance criteria, ensuring queued submissions are not lost or duplicated on real devices, launching the app on both stores, and monitoring sync failures. This is a fully remote, full-time contractor role for someone in LATAM, with about 40 hours per week and core hours overlapping US time zones.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience building mobile applications.
  • Experience building React Native applications released on both the App Store and Google Play.
  • Hands-on experience building offline-first functionality, including local storage, queued writes, retries, and conflict handling.
  • Experience tuning performance on low-end Android devices, with startup time or memory measured before and after a change.
  • Daily use of Cursor, Claude Code, or a similar AI coding tool on production mobile work.
  • Experience with TypeScript, automated tests, and CI.
  • Clear written and spoken English for PR descriptions, risk notes, and tradeoff explanations to a client team.
  • Experience working from written acceptance criteria and judgment to push back on a merge that does not meet them.

Nice To Haves

  • An in-app e-signature or document flow that stored versioned records.
  • Experience building an application for field, frontline, or hourly workers.
  • Experience with a localized application or Spanish proficiency for interface testing.
  • Backend experience, such as writing an endpoint or database migration.
  • Experience setting up crash reporting or sync monitoring and using it to fix a problem observed in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Set up Apple and Google developer accounts, signing, CI builds, and testing tracks.
  • Build local storage, a write queue, and retry logic so the app works offline.
  • Agree on sync and upload APIs with the backend developer and determine how conflicting edits are resolved.
  • Build phone-number sign-in using SMS codes and push notifications with SMS fallback.
  • Build camera capture and e-signature flows that save each signed record as a new version.
  • Measure and improve startup time, memory use, and app size on low-end Android phones.
  • Handle store submissions, privacy disclosures, and review rejections.
  • Add crash and sync monitoring.
  • Review AI-generated code diffs, add missing tests, and verify sprint acceptance criteria.
  • Write risk notes and explain tradeoffs and recommendations directly to the client team.

Benefits

  • One app to own from the first project files through public release on both stores.
  • Responsibility for sync, storage, and release decisions, with a backend developer as a counterpart.
  • A team where AI coding agents are part of the daily workflow, with typed code, automated tests, and CI in place.
