About The Position

The temporary Marketing Graphic Design Assistant for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is responsible for designing and producing a broad range of marketing materials, including, but not limited to signs, banners, flyers, brochures, postcards, invitations, and booklets. A major focus of this role will be designing, printing, and physically producing medium - to large-format signage for placement within the museum. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Visual Communication, Graphics Art Management, or Digital Media preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong physical production skills, specifically hand trimming with a knife and mounting medium-to-large-format prints.
  • Intermediate (or better) experience designing in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Adobe Photoshop experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to work a consistent schedule of 20 hours per week on location at the museum within normal working hours (Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm).
  • Must be able to view computer monitors and visually perceive space and colors and to make visual assessments to produce drawings, documents, and designs.
  • Must be able to communicate in small and large group settings virtually and in-person.
  • Must be able to interpret design plans.
  • Dexterity for use of keyboard to draft and review documents and manipulate graphic elements.
  • Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods while traversing and viewing exhibitions throughout the campus and facility.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and tolerate dust in the environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Adobe Photoshop experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develops design concepts that effectively communicate the goals and objectives of each project. Projects will include signs, banners, flyers, brochures, postcards, invitations, booklets, etc. that support marketing campaigns for exhibits, events, special initiatives, and museum operations.
  • Performs retouch and manipulation of photos and other graphical elements.
  • Creates materials that are consistent with the museum’s brand standards and provides meticulous attention to detail to ensure excellence in design and continuity.
  • Prepares and submits materials for client approval utilizing in-house computerized job tracking software (a.k.a. RoboHead).
  • Manages multiple projects to meet timelines and intended objectives, all within quality standards and budget guidelines.
  • Ensures that all assets are organized and that master electronic asset libraries are up-to-date for easy reference by other team members within the creative team.
  • Collaborates with the in-house print center to ensure the quality of higher-volume prints such as fliers and postcards.
  • Produces medium- and large-format signage.
  • Operates the in-house large-format printer, accurately trimming prints to size by hand with a knife, mounting printed materials, and, when necessary, participating in the installation of work.
