About The Position

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company focused on rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft. The Mission Systems Engineering Team develops and integrates the hardware and software that enable Hermeus aircraft to execute missions. As a Mission Systems Engineering Intern, you will work across avionics, software, communications, and system integration to help build, test, and troubleshoot mission capabilities. This role is ideal for someone with a strong mix of hands-on hardware experience and software development skills. Internships are available for approximately 16 weeks (January - April) or 12 weeks (May - August).

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with both software development and hardware integration through internships, coursework, research, projects, or competition teams.
  • Programming experience in C++, Python, or a similar language.
  • Experience working with embedded systems, electronics, avionics, sensors, networking, or other hardware-connected systems.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software interfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with networking or communication protocols such as TCP/UDP, Ethernet, CAN, RS-422, or ARINC.
  • Experience with electrical schematics, wiring, electronics bring-up, or test equipment.
  • Exposure to HIL/SIL, robotics, UAVs, aerospace, defense, Formula SAE, rocketry, or similar hands-on projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support integration and testing of mission hardware, software, sensors, radios, processors, and avionics systems.
  • Develop and test software for command and control, telemetry, and subsystem interfaces.
  • Perform hardware/software bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting in lab, HIL, ground-test, and aircraft environments.
  • Support system interfaces, networking, communication protocols, and integration requirements.
  • Collaborate with software, avionics, autonomy, communications, and flight-test teams.
  • Document test results, technical findings, and system configurations.
