Mission-Focused Systems Acquisition Analyst

American Systems•Washington, DC

About The Position

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a hybrid acquisition and systems engineering professional to translate mission needs into executable technical solutions across the full lifecycle. The role operates at the intersection of program management, engineering, and operational stakeholders, aligning strategy, contracts, and technical baselines to deliver capability on time, on budget, and with demonstrable mission impact. The analyst leads mission-needs discovery and translates operational objectives and measures of effectiveness and performance into testable requirements and acquisition artifacts. The position shapes acquisition strategies, integrates DoD Adaptive Acquisition Framework pathways with technical baselines and milestone criteria, and supports analyses, source selection, contracting, and sustainment planning. The role also facilitates requirements development and change control; maintains operational and interface documentation; develops architecture views and verification and validation strategies; coordinates test planning; and integrates program risk, cost, and schedule considerations. The analyst bridges technical and operational stakeholders through clear artifacts, briefings, decision memos, milestone packages, and dashboards. Promoting model-based systems engineering, digital threads, and alignment between agile development and formal requirements and testing is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, or Software Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience across government acquisition and systems engineering.
  • Demonstrated success completing at least one full lifecycle from concept to fielding.
  • Working proficiency with FAR/DFARS, DoD Adaptive Acquisition Framework pathways, source-selection processes, and contracting vehicles such as OTA and IDIQ.
  • Experience with requirements engineering, architecture, test and evaluation, risk management, and configuration/change control.
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 principles.
  • Exceptional ability to create clear, concise artifacts and brief senior leaders.
  • Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.

Nice To Haves

  • Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance preferred.
  • Experience promoting model-based systems engineering practices and digital threads for traceability.
  • Experience aligning agile backlogs and CI/CD pipelines with formal requirements and test objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery with mission owners to elicit operational objectives, measures of effectiveness, and measures of performance, and convert them into testable requirements and acquisition artifacts.
  • Establish traceability from mission needs through system requirements, architecture, verification plans, and fielded performance.
  • Shape acquisition strategies, including FAR/DFARS-based approaches and OTA or IDIQ/task-order structures, aligned with technical maturity, risk, and schedule.
  • Integrate Adaptive Acquisition Framework pathways with program technical baselines and milestone criteria.
  • Support planning and execution of Analysis of Alternatives, source-selection inputs, contracting packages, and sustainment strategies.
  • Facilitate requirements development, decomposition, and change control; maintain CONOPS, ICDs, and interface documents.
  • Develop or curate architecture views, such as SysML/UML and DoDAF-lite, and define verification and validation strategies.
  • Coordinate test and evaluation planning, including TEMP, and ensure test cases map to mission outcomes and acceptance criteria.
  • Run risk workshops and maintain program risk registers with mitigations tied to decision gates.
  • Support cost realism and ROM analyses, BOEs, and technical schedule integration with EVMS and Agile increments.
  • Drive decision-quality trade studies covering performance, affordability, logistics, cybersecurity, and interoperability.
  • Bridge engineering teams, contracting officers, program managers, and operators through clear artifacts and briefings.
  • Prepare concise decision memos, milestone packages, and operationally relevant dashboards.
  • Promote MBSE practices and digital threads for traceability (preferred).
  • Align agile backlogs and CI/CD pipelines with formal requirements and test objectives (preferred).
  • Build architecture views and interface control documents; manage configuration and change control.
