About The Position

Threat Systems Engineering (TSE) develops and delivers high-fidelity threat modeling products supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and its Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). TSE develops models and simulations used to stimulate BMDS element models, including kinematic missile modeling, infrared signature modeling, data production and analysis, and maintenance and sustainment of the TSE software baseline. TSE is a cornerstone element of the Threat and Advanced Simulations Development (TASD) contract. This mid-level engineering role focuses on aerodynamic forces, Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) systems, and modeling and simulation of system kinematics within TSE’s model generation framework. The engineer also provides documentation needed to run threat data in Ground Test architectures. The selected candidate will work with little or no direct supervision as part of a product delivery team and meet time-critical delivery schedules. This position requires daily onsite work; remote and hybrid work are not available.

Requirements

  • Already possess an active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Programming background in languages such as MATLAB, Python, and LaTeX.
  • Strong knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of ballistic missiles.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work in a dynamic team environment.
  • Be familiar with Computer Aided Design tools and models.
  • Have experience with Verification and Validation (V&V) of vehicle kinematics simulation results.
  • For Level 3: a STEM bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience, or a STEM master’s degree and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and no experience; the posting describes the STEM bachelor’s degree as preferred.
  • For Level 2: a STEM bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience, or a STEM master’s degree and no experience; the posting describes the STEM bachelor’s degree as preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background in mathematics, physics, or engineering.
  • Modeling, simulation, and automation experience.
  • Previous experience modeling flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles.
  • Strong background in missile system engineering performance.
  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles involving body motion, trajectory generation, countermeasures, and debris.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop ballistic and advanced/hypersonic kinematic threat models for a variety of modeling and simulation tools, frameworks, and media.
