About The Position

Crossflow Technologies is hiring a Level 2 or Level 3 Missile Modeling Kinematics Engineer for Threat Systems Engineering (TSE), which develops and delivers high-fidelity threat modeling products in support of the Missile Defense Agency and its Ballistic Missile Defense System. TSE develops and sustains models and simulations used to stimulate BMDS element models, including kinematic missile and infrared-signature modeling, data production and analysis, and maintenance of the TSE software baseline. TSE is a cornerstone of the Threat and Advanced Simulations Development contract. The engineer will develop ballistic and advanced or hypersonic kinematic threat models for use in modeling and simulation tools and frameworks. The role applies engineering and mathematical algorithms to represent missile and space launch vehicle behavior during powered and unpowered flight, and involves researching, interpreting, and verifying parameters to build, replicate, and propagate trajectories. This includes modeling staging debris, countermeasures, and payload traits. The engineer will also prepare technical verification and validation documentation and documentation for running threat data in ground-test architectures. The position is intended for a detail-oriented engineer who understands aerodynamic forces, guidance, navigation and control systems, and kinematic modeling and simulation. The successful candidate works with little or no direct supervision as part of a product delivery team and meets time-critical delivery schedules. Daily onsite work is required; remote and hybrid work are not available.

Requirements

  • Must already possess an active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Programming background in languages such as MATLAB, Python, and LaTeX.
  • Strong knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of ballistic missiles.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a dynamic team environment.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design tools and models.
  • Experience with verification and validation of vehicle kinematics simulation results.
  • Level 2: bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 2 years of related experience, or a master's degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related experience.
  • Level 3: bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related experience, or a master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 0 years of related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background in mathematics, physics, or engineering.
  • Modeling, simulation, and automation experience.
  • Previous experience modeling flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles.
  • Strong background in missile-system engineering performance.
  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles involving body motion, trajectory generation, countermeasures, and debris.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop ballistic and advanced or hypersonic kinematic threat models for a variety of modeling and simulation tools, frameworks, and media.
  • Apply engineering and mathematical algorithms to accurately portray expected missile and space launch vehicle behavior during powered and unpowered flight.
  • Research, interpret, and verify parameters to build, replicate, and propagate missile and space launch vehicle trajectories, including staging debris, countermeasures, and payload traits.
  • Author technical verification and validation (V&V) documents.
  • Provide documentation for running threat data in ground-test architectures.
  • Work as an integral member of a product delivery team, with little or no direct supervision, and meet time-critical delivery schedules.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, software engineers, users, and MDA ground-test stakeholders to ensure product requirements are met.
