About The Position

The MineStar Solution Architect is a hands-on architecture leader for Caterpillar’s MineStar Office product suite, bridging application design and software delivery. The role produces clear, high-quality architecture designs and works closely with engineering teams to deliver aligned, pragmatic, and scalable outcomes. It requires deep engineering credibility and close engagement with code and implementation so architecture decisions are practical, executable, and valuable. MineStar is Caterpillar’s integrated mining technology suite, connecting machines, people, and data across mine sites. MineStar Office software helps mine operators plan, monitor, and manage operations. The Solution Architect aligns the suite’s technical direction with Caterpillar’s enterprise strategy and leads its technical roadmap while collaborating with product owners, delivery leads, platform teams, and engineering teams. The role is based in Dallas, Texas, with up to 15% domestic and international travel. Domestic relocation assistance is offered; U.S. work sponsorship is not offered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Knowledge of IT marketplace experience, developments, and trends, and the ability to apply that knowledge to benefit the organization.
  • Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational, tactical (1–2 year), and strategic (3–5 year) planning.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, and ability to convey, receive, and accurately interpret information and needs.
  • Knowledge of relationship management techniques and ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration, coordinate work across divisions, and help teams solve problems together.
  • Ability to lead through technical credibility, guide engineering teams, build consensus on design decisions, and mentor engineers.
  • Knowledge of architecture principles, patterns, and design methods, with ability to define scalable, secure, maintainable application architectures and clearly communicate trade-offs.
  • Knowledge of integration patterns, APIs, data flows, and interoperability across distributed systems, with ability to design reliable integrations among products, platforms, and third-party systems.
  • Knowledge of the software development life cycle and ability to use a structured methodology to deliver and manage software products.
  • 10 or more years of experience in application development, application architecture, or related roles.
  • Strong software engineering and application architecture background, including demonstrable hands-on experience.
  • Confidence engaging with code, frameworks, APIs, and modern application platforms, including cloud-native patterns.
  • Track record of translating complex, ambiguous requirements into clear, pragmatic designs that teams have successfully delivered.
  • Experience bridging architecture and delivery, producing designs that directly enable implementation.
  • Ability to serve as a trusted technical partner and influence delivery teams through credibility rather than authority.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to adapt architectural concepts for different audiences.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous environments and helping teams converge on practical solutions.
