About The Position

This position is within the Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management, headquartered at the Findlay Office. The role involves inspecting oil and gas activities for compliance with laws, rules, and regulations, investigating complaints related to pollution from oilfield wastes, and overseeing various stages of oil and gas operations to protect natural resources and public safety. The inspector will collect evidence, issue notices of violation, and prepare reports for potential prosecution. This position requires travel to field sites, availability 24/7 for response, and involves working in various environmental conditions.

Requirements

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in natural science (e.g., geology; chemistry; hydrology; biology; agronomy)
  • 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations or communications
  • 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer
  • Must be able to provide own transportation
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
  • Any new hire accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects various oil and gas activities for compliance with applicable laws, rules & regulations in assigned geographical region.
  • Investigates Orphan Well & landowner complaints regarding pollution/contamination of natural resources from oilfield wastes; completes referrals; interviews parties & witnesses; gathers records & documentation (e.g., photos, drilling data, cement records, electric logs, hydrogen sulfide [H2S]).
  • Oversees drilling, casing, cementing, plugging, production and transporter activities to protect natural resources and public safety.
  • Collects evidence & makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Issues notices of violation & prepares evidence & reports necessary for administrative, civil or criminal prosecution.
  • Acts as a liaison with other local, county, state & federal officials.
  • Requires travel to field sites to conduct inspections & to be available 24 hours/7 days per week to respond to calls &/or site inspections.
