About The Position

Mining Engineers perform a variety of engineering tasks to optimize the long-term efficiency and profitability of our operations. They use their skills and ingenuity to reduce our environmental impact, lower costs, and solve the variety of challenges that mining in a suburban environment creates. Lannon Stone Products is a mid-sized, privately-held construction aggregates company with operations in the suburbs of Milwaukee, WI. This urban mining environment and private ownership structure are the foundation for our commitment to building and operating great facilities for our neighbors, customers, employees, and vendors. Mining operations face evolving challenges from markets, regulations, environmental considerations, and workforce demands that require innovative engineering solutions and new ways of thinking. Through continuous improvement and sound engineering practices, we develop solutions that enhance product quality, operational efficiency, environmental stewardship, and aesthetic appeal to community stakeholders. To support these efforts, we are expanding technical team with a Mine Engineer who will serve as a subject matter expert in mine planning, haulage systems, site water management, and geotechnical analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • 2-5 years of mine design / operations experience preferred
  • Proficient in CAD software
  • Commitment to a safe work environment with zero injuries or accidents
  • Willing to work in a multi-disciplinary environment, learning and performing a variety of jobs
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must be able to understand issues, problems, and opportunities and make timely, sound decisions.
  • Take responsibility for decisions and understand the impact and implications of decisions and provide feedback as necessary.
  • Communicate with other employees, “customers”, and vendors, perform an assortment of administrative tasks, and have personal management skills.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and exert high effort and focus on very busy days.
  • Must be able to make sound decisions and remain calm under high pressure situations.
  • Must continually identify personal knowledge and perspective gaps and self-educate.
  • Traveling between company sites is an essential part of the job; therefore, a candidate must have a current, valid driver’s license and must remain insurable under the Company’s commercial liability insurance to qualify for the position.

  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate preferred (or ability to obtain certification)

Responsibilities

  • Determine optimal mining sequences that lower haulage costs and keep plants fed with appropriate material
  • Optimize haulage routes for plant production and overburden removal
  • Develop long-term overburden & plant waste storage plans
  • Develop long-term pit / quarry development plans in partnership with other LSP staff and outside contractors
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of development plans by facilitating environmental studies and permitting applications
  • Manage pump, pipe, and water management analysis, design, and implementation.
  • Coordinate vendors, contractors, and operations teams to support field projects
  • Lead surveying efforts, site measurements, and field data collection
  • Support project design, layout development, and field implementation
  • Track project progress, schedules, and documentation in support of the Director of Technical Services, Director of Operations, Project Coordinator, and site-specific production stakeholders.
  • Serve as the technical lead for mine planning initiatives, mining roadblocks, geotechnical considerations, and site dewatering and dust suppression, and recycling.
  • Develop optimal mining sequences, haulage routes, and pit development strategies, and material management plans.
  • Support permitting, compliance, and sustainable mining practices.
  • Work closely with operations, drilling crews, and leadership teams to improve production performance and solve complex site challenges.
