About The Position

Stimson Lumber - Priest River is looking for a talented Millwright Apprentice. This role offers the opportunity to complete North Idaho College’s Maintenance/Millwright program and train on-site at the Priest River mill. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to learn, a commitment to tasks and responsibilities, and a basic mechanical understanding and aptitude. This position requires meeting schedule requirements for both in-person classes and on-the-job training.

Requirements

  • Make safety in the workplace a number one priority.
  • An understanding of equipment operation in an industrial plant setting; lumber industry experience is desired.
  • An understanding of maintenance needed for industrial equipment.
  • An aptitude for learning mechanical skills (hydraulic, pneumatic, etc.).
  • Ability to demonstrate basic math skills.
  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., stand up to 10 hours a day, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, and move equipment as needed.
  • Must be comfortable in year-round outdoor temperatures, in loud conditions, with airborne particles (sawdust), and working around moving mechanical equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team player and highly self-motivated individual.
  • Willing and able to work weekends, off-shifts, and overtime as needed, both during and after the apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

  • Attend in-person classes at North Idaho College in Rathdrum, Idaho to complete the year-long industrial maintenance curriculum (August 2026 – July 2027).
  • Train on the job with the Maintenance team, typically working Friday and Saturday noon – 10:30 pm, with additional shifts on Sunday and/or throughout the week following the completion of classwork.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices in all activities.
  • Support Millwrights in completing maintenance responsibilities, including preventive maintenance, addressing equipment failures, and equipment repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Proactively communicate with all departments to ensure proper operation and maintenance of systems and equipment.
