About The Position

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely material and project estimates for commercial, residential, and multifamily construction projects. This role reviews architectural blueprints, plans, specifications, hardware schedules, and customer requirements to determine material quantities, product specifications, and project costs. The Estimator focuses on doors, frames, hardware, trim, and other interior millwork products while supporting sales, project management, operations, and outstanding customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural blueprints, construction plans, specifications, and hardware schedules.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction, including hollow metal doors, frames, commercial hardware, and related components.
  • Knowledge of residential and multifamily interior doors, trim, hardware, and related millwork products.
  • Strong understanding of millwork materials, construction terminology, and construction methods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, formatting, calculations, and data organization.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, contractors, vendors, sales teams, project managers, and internal departments.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and occasionally visit job sites or customer locations as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, Building Materials, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in millwork, construction estimating, building materials, or a related industry preferred.
  • Experience with estimating software, digital takeoff software, or plan-review tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with vendor catalogs, product specifications, and hardware schedules preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret architectural blueprints, plans, specifications, hardware schedules, and customer requirements to prepare accurate material and project estimates.
  • Identify doors, frames, hardware, trim, and other millwork materials required for commercial, residential, and multifamily projects.
  • Prepare detailed material takeoffs and calculate quantities and project costs while meeting established deadlines.
  • Estimate commercial millwork packages, including hollow metal doors and frames, commercial hardware, and related components.
  • Estimate residential and multifamily millwork packages, including interior doors, trim, hardware, and related products.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, sales teams, project managers, and vendors to gather project information, verify product requirements and pricing, and develop competitive estimates.
  • Present estimates and pricing recommendations to sales teams and assist with customer proposals and bids.
  • Coordinate bids, revisions, and changes to estimates as project plans, specifications, pricing, or scope requirements change.
  • Review project documents for discrepancies, missing information, or scope concerns that may impact material requirements or estimate accuracy.
  • Research products, materials, pricing, and available alternatives to improve estimate accuracy, value, and competitiveness.
  • Recommend alternative products or materials that meet project specifications while optimizing cost, availability, and project requirements.
  • Maintain organized project documentation, including blueprints, specifications, revisions, estimates, project notes, and supporting information.
  • Use Excel and applicable estimating or plan-review software to calculate quantities, prepare estimates, and organize project data.
  • Communicate project scope, assumptions, exclusions, changes, and other relevant information clearly with internal teams and customers.
  • Prioritize workload effectively to manage multiple estimates and meet customer and project deadlines.
