About The Position

St. Catherine of Siena School is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our team from October-March. This multifaceted role includes teaching middle school math, providing math support for middle school students, and leading a middle school elective. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to Catholic education, a love for teaching, and the flexibility to work with students across multiple grade levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Holds a Washington State teaching certificate or is in progress toward earning it.
  • Experience teaching middle school or high school math.
  • Strong background in middle school math instruction and intervention strategies.
  • Ability to differentiate for a range of learning needs.
  • Ability to create a welcoming, faith-filled learning environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Catholic with knowledge of Catholic doctrine and traditions.

Responsibilities

  • Teach middle school math classes: Pre-Algebra, 7th Grade Algebra, 8th Grade Algebra, 8th Grade Geometry.
  • Focus on building foundational skills needed for success in algebra, including operations with integers and rational numbers, order of operations, expressions, basic equations, ratios and proportions, and introductory work with variables.
  • Develop and extend core algebraic concepts with increasing complexity, including systems of equations, functions and function notation, slope and rate of change, and writing and analyzing linear equations.
  • Build a strong foundation for high school algebra through rigorous exploration of linear and nonlinear relationships.
  • Engage students in both conceptual and analytical geometry, including transformations, congruence and similarity, angle relationships, and triangle properties.
  • Lead middle school elective courses, which meet four times per week and include a mixed-grade cohort of 6th-8th grade students.
  • Conduct Advisory sessions focused on developing students' executive functioning and social-emotional skills.
  • Structure elective sessions around engaging topics such as problem-solving, math enrichment, STEM activities, or other areas of interest.
