About The Position
Kennedy Middle School is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Middle School Drama Teacher to join the Fine and Performing Arts Department for a one-year parental leave replacement. The successful candidate will provide standards-based drama instruction that promotes creativity, collaboration, communication, and performance skills in a supportive and inclusive classroom environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to working with diverse learners and fostering student engagement through theater arts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Education, Drama, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts, or related field
- Valid Massachusetts teaching license in Theatre/Drama or appropriate related licensure
- Demonstrated knowledge of drama/theater instruction and middle school learners
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
- Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience teaching drama or theater at the middle or high school level
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students
- Experience directing or facilitating student performances or theater activities
- Ability to build strong relationships with students and foster a collaborative classroom culture
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based drama instruction for middle school students
- Teach foundational theater skills, including acting, improvisation, movement, voice, script analysis, and ensemble performance
- Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Assess student progress using a variety of performance-based and classroom-based measures
- Provide opportunities for students to develop confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills through drama
- Maintain classroom materials, scripts, props, and instructional resources
- Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the school community and Fine and Performing Arts Department
