About The Position

Waltham Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Elementary Drama Teacher to join the Fine and Performing Arts Department. The successful candidate will provide standards-based drama instruction that promotes creativity, collaboration, communication, storytelling, movement, and performance skills in a supportive and inclusive elementary classroom environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to working with young learners and fostering student engagement through theater arts experiences that support social-emotional development, creativity, and student voice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Education, Drama, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts, Elementary Education, or related field
  • Valid Massachusetts teaching license in Theatre/Drama or appropriate related licensure
  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary drama instruction and child development
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience teaching drama or theater at the elementary or middle school level
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students
  • Experience facilitating student performances, creative dramatics, or theater activities
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students and foster a collaborative classroom culture
  • Experience integrating SEL practices and arts-based learning strategies into instruction

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based drama instruction for elementary students
  • Teach foundational theater skills, including creative movement, acting, improvisation, storytelling, voice, character development, and ensemble participation
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Assess student progress using a variety of performance-based and classroom-based measures
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop confidence, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills through drama
  • Maintain classroom materials, props, costumes, scripts, and instructional resources
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and colleagues within the Fine and Performing Arts Department
  • Support school-wide performances, assemblies, and arts integration opportunities as appropriate
