About The Position

Lewis Central Community School District is seeking a Middle School Assistant Football Coach for the 2026-27 season. The season typically runs from August through October, with additional time required outside the regular season for program and player development. The coach will work under the general direction of the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director, with the primary responsibility of leading and developing student-athletes to achieve both individual and team success.

Requirements

Coaching authorization issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) is mandatory.
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Understanding of and adherence to all relevant safety guidelines.

Nice To Haves

Previous coaching experience as a football coach at the middle school or high school level is preferred.
Strong knowledge of the rules and strategies related to the specific sport.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to the overall well-being and development of student-athletes.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement effective training programs that focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Provide guidance and mentorship to student-athletes, fostering their personal and athletic growth.
Plan and execute practice sessions, ensuring a balance between skill refinement and overall fitness.
Create and maintain a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes respect, discipline, and commitment.
Collaborate with school staff, parents, and community members to promote a supportive and engaging athletic program.
Attend and actively participate in scheduled meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
Ensure compliance with all school, district, and state policies, including the rules and regulations set forth by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union.
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team activities, schedules, and expectations.
Encourage academic achievement and emphasize the importance of balancing academics with athletics.
Attend and support/supervise student athletes at competitions, games, and other related events.
Travel with the team to all related events and in some instances operate a school vehicle to transport student-athletes to events.
