We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Systems Administrator with strong problem‑solving skills who thrives in a hands‑on, autonomous environment. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting and evolving our Microsoft 365 ecosystem, with direct involvement in a high‑visibility 2026 domain migration initiative. The ideal candidate brings a solid technical foundation, including experience with identity and access management, security administration, and scripting to automate and support enterprise environments. Located in Houston, TX Standard hours 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday (occasional night and weekend work required) Full-time position  The Company Katalyst Data Management (KDM) is the global leader in hosted subsurface data management solutions for the oil and gas industry. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities In this role, you will administer and support the organization’s Microsoft 365 environment with a strong focus on Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), identity and access management, group management, security administration, and licensing. You will play a key role in a high‑visibility 2026 domain migration initiative, including the synchronization of on‑premises Active Directory with Entra ID. This position also manages the company’s Windows device fleet, troubleshoots complex system and access issues, and develops or maintains scripts and automations to improve efficiency and reliability. In addition, you will partner closely with internal teams to support enterprise IT initiatives and provide hands‑on desktop and end‑user support as needed, contributing to a secure, stable, and positive user experience across the organization.

Requirements

  • Advanced Microsoft 365 expertise – Deep understanding of Microsoft 365 architecture, authentication flows, identity models, and security frameworks beyond basic administrative portal usage.
  • Hands‑on Entra ID hybrid identity experience – Proven experience implementing, managing, and troubleshooting Active Directory to Entra ID synchronization in a hybrid environment.
  • Active Directory proficiency – Strong working knowledge of Active Directory design, Group Policy, DNS, and LDAP.
  • Security‑first mindset – Demonstrated experience implementing and managing Conditional Access policies, MFA, and Microsoft security baselines.
  • Intune / Endpoint Manager experience – Hands‑on experience with device configuration, compliance policies, and application deployment.
  • Virtual desktop administration – Experience supporting and administering Windows virtual desktop environments at scale.
  • Advanced troubleshooting capabilities – Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues across hybrid cloud and on‑premises environments.
  • Strong communication skills – Ability to clearly document technical processes and effectively explain complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Self‑directed and proactive – Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and drive tasks to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative team player – Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross‑functional IT teams and support broader infrastructure initiatives.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of hands‑on Windows Server administration experience, or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science), plus minimum of five (5) years of Windows Server administration experience.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 E3 services, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, the Microsoft Office suite, and security features such as Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA).
  • Manage and optimize identities, group memberships, permissions, security policies and endpoint devices across a hybrid on-premises and cloud environment.
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain device and application access policies using Microsoft Intune and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies using Microsoft Purview to protect organizational data.
  • Administer and support a fleet of 300+ physical and virtual Windows workstations, ensuring system performance, reliability, and availability.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced PowerShell scripts to support automation, system management, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide end‑user desktop support, including workstation setup, configuration, hardware troubleshooting, and issue resolution (approximately 15–20% of role responsibilities).
  • Monitor security events and alerts, investigate potential risks, and implement timely remediation actions.
  • Create, maintain, and update technical documentation covering systems, configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with IT team members on infrastructure initiatives, system improvements, and ongoing operational enhancements.
