About The Position

The Microsoft System Administrator SME provides Windows engineering support for the Department of Transportation (DOT) disaster recovery data center at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. The role administers and manages Windows servers and systems, cloud infrastructure, and file and print environments, with a focus on Microsoft Windows Server. Duties include building, patching, and troubleshooting Windows servers supporting current and future DOT systems and applications, and working with server engineers to resolve issues across systems and data center locations. The position also provides support, implementation, and design services for enterprise Windows-based systems. The administrator completes assigned tasks and change requests, serves as an escalation point for support issues, researches and collaborates on new solutions, and advises on approaches for new application initiatives. The role manages large-scale infrastructure, supports Citrix solutions, contributes to strategic planning and budget input, and assists with disaster recovery, IT service consolidation, and data center operations.

Requirements

12 or more years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree; additional experience may be considered instead of a degree.
Experience with Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022.
Active Directory management, Group Policy, Certificate Services, Federation Services, and Azure Active Directory.
Windows Failover Clustering.
Windows file and folder sharing and Windows Print Services.
Microsoft Hyper-V.
Citrix XenApp.
VMware vSphere and vCenter.

Responsibilities

Manage Windows OS-based computer devices using Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, registry, and file-system security.
Administer systems infrastructure on premises and in the cloud.
Collaborate with team members on server patching and maintenance.
Evaluate hardware and software purchases.
Manage more than 2,000 servers across multiple field-site locations.
Manage and lead systems and infrastructure projects.
Follow incident, problem, release, and change-management processes.
Participate in a team rotation providing 24x7 on-call escalation support for existing server infrastructure.
Provide Tier 3 technical support for escalated issues and tickets.
Design, implement, manage, and monitor Citrix solutions and platforms.
Provide input to MARAD for its annual budget and meet with the MARAD Infrastructure Manager for strategic planning.
Recommend server and storage hardware refreshes.
Plan upgrades and enhancements to the server infrastructure at the DOT disaster recovery data center.
Help manage warranty and support-contract renewals.
Help manage software license assets for the MARAD data center.
Provide remote support for MARAD’s disaster recovery site at Piney Point, Maryland.
Help maintain the disaster recovery test plan and MARAD disaster recovery plan documents.
Maintain the MARAD configuration management database (CMDB).
Perform engineering studies as requested for OST Data Center Operations.
Provide administrative smart-hands support within the Stennis data center.
Draft and submit change requests to the MARAD and DOT OST OCIO change boards.
Support IT service consolidation projects.
Assist with testing as a member of the PVG.
