About The Position

Veolia’s Water Technology Business is seeking a senior process engineering professional to lead the process design of ultrapure water (UPW) treatment solutions for the microelectronics industry. The role supports customers in the North American market throughout solution sales, execution, commissioning, and operation. It applies technical knowledge of treatment technologies alongside an understanding of customer processes, markets, regulations, and competitors to balance capital and operating costs, technical risk, and project success. The position can be based anywhere in North America. The engineer will develop water chemistry characterizations and design bases, select and size unit processes, establish process guarantees, and integrate complex treatment systems. The role includes assessing system performance under design and upset conditions, identifying potential failure points, participating in HAZOP reviews, and supporting treatability studies, piloting, benchmarking, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. The position also builds long-term relationships with customers and industry experts, presents at industry conferences and technical forums, contributes to innovation in solutions, technologies, and markets, and trains and mentors others in process design. Success requires confidently communicating system impacts across upstream and downstream processes, collaborating across bidding and project-execution teams, managing competing priorities, and balancing autonomy with teamwork. Travel within North America may be up to 10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an engineering field; Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred, or another technical discipline combined with process design and hands-on UPW system experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in UPW treatment design; a combination of process design experience and field operations background will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience with UPW treatment processes and system design or operation for the microelectronics industry.
  • Proven ability to integrate multiple unit operations into cohesive, optimized treatment systems.
  • Confident communication and leadership in cross-functional bidding and project-execution teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and balance autonomy with collaboration.
  • Clear, concise communication and presentation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise strong engineering judgment under changing conditions.
  • Strong team collaboration skills and ability to take ownership of system integration.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% within North America.
  • Must be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; the employer will not sponsor U.S. work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with process design software and tools such as WinFlows, WAVE, and/or GasCAD (Liqui-Cel GTM).
  • Strong proficiency with spreadsheet tools such as Google Sheets and Excel.
  • Professional Engineer license (PE / P.Eng. / Ing.) in a U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction, or willingness to obtain licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process design of ultrapure water treatment solutions for the microelectronics industry.
  • Support the successful sale, execution, commissioning, and operation of complete UPW system solutions for customers.
  • Characterize water chemistry and develop design bases, including for reclaim-to-UPW applications.
  • Select and design unit processes, size equipment, and establish process guarantees.
  • Apply treatment technologies including solids separation, low- and high-pressure membrane treatment, ion exchange, UV treatment, and gas-transfer membrane processes.
  • Integrate systems across multiple unit operations or collaborate closely with a dedicated system integrator on complex flowsheets.
  • Evaluate system operation under design and upset conditions, identify potential failure points, and participate in HAZOP reviews.
  • Engage in piloting and benchmarking treatability studies for design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • Build long-term relationships with customers and key industry experts.
  • Present at industry conferences and technical forums to position Veolia as a UPW expert in the microelectronics market.
  • Participate in innovation of solutions, technologies, and markets.
  • Train and mentor others in process design.
